Improve the overall appearance of your smile
Veneers are thin, custom-made, tooth coloured shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth and makeover your smile. They are made of thin plastic resin or porcelain and can be used both to enhance your smile and help protect a tooth from further damage.
Veneers are most commonly placed to:
- Correct poorly formed or mildly malpositioned teeth
- Close gaps between teeth
- Mask internal stains
- Restore partially broken-down teeth
What does the treatment involve?
Initially, we will examine your teeth and gums and make sure they are healthy before beginning treatment. We will take impressions of your teeth and plan the placement of your veneers.
We then prepare the tooth. Tooth preparation is minimal and confined to the enamel unless large changes in alignment are being made. In this case, it may be necessary to remove more of your tooth structure to correctly align your teeth.
Once your veneers have been crafted, we will invite you in for your fitting appointment and fix them into place using a dental adhesive.
Looking after your veneers
Placing veneers is usually an irreversible process, because it’s necessary to remove a small amount of enamel from your teeth to accommodate the veneer.
Veneers are resilient but it is important to treat them with care, so try not to use your teeth to open anything or bite your fingernails. The best way to look after them is to keep up with regular brushing and flossing. Your dentist will keep an eye on them during your regular appointments.
