Most people have a filling at some point in their lives. Today, we are much more conscious of our smiles, so more and more patients are opting for a cosmetic, natural looking alternative, the composite filling.

Composite is a type of resin made from a mixture of glass and plastic which, when hardened, looks just like dental enamel. It was originally only used for front teeth, but modern improvements to the material mean it is now suitable for all teeth.

Why choose composite fillings?

  • Aesthetic appeal, blending in beautifully with your existing teeth
  • Strong and durable, comparable to silver amalgam
  • Less of the tooth needs to be removed before placing the filling
  • Can effectively restore decayed, chipped, worn or broken teeth

What happens during treatment?

Composite fillings are more difficult to place than traditional silver fillings, so your appointment may be slightly longer to complete.

We use local anaesthetic to ensure you are comfortable during treatment before applying the composite in layers and hardening it into shape with a special bright light.

We then polish the composite to look like a natural part of your tooth, blending seamlessly into your smile.
